    DECAL APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS TEXT

Here are the printed instructions. Please read and then follow the illustration pictures.

    Getting ready for decal Application.

    Picture
Have your very warm tap water ready. Solva Set or decal softener, or setting solution. I cut my setting solution 50% with water. I also have a picture of the prototype I am applying the decals to. In this series of pictures, I am using a Walthers Wood type boxcar. The boxcar has been sprayed with gloss clear coat. Clearcoat is needed to hide the decal film once the decal has dried

Soaking Your Cut out decal. Cut it as close to the ink as possible. I use a lighted magnifying glass for the small decals to aid in seeing the small print while cutting.

    Picture
Here I am soaking the decal for about 8-10 seconds.

I immediately blot off the excess water form the decal by touching it against a folded paper towel. I also invert it and blot the opposite side. Use finess when handling the decl after it has been soaked and after this point in time as it can move easily.

    Picture
Blotting away excess water from the decal. Use caution as it in now ready to be slid from the backing paper.

Positioning your wet decal onto your model. First wet the area you want to slide the decal off onto on your model  Slide  your decal onto the model. Pull away the backing paper and, leaving the decal onto the model. If its crooked as in the picture below put your finger into the warm water and blot some water onto the decal to aid in moving it into position as in your prototype picture.

Sliding your decal onto the model.

Straitening the decal and applying seting solution.

    Picture
I first blot a bit of water onto the decal and use a small screwdriver or pick to move it into position as per the prototype picture. I then finish straitening and covering the entire decal with seting solution. use light pressure with the brush as you put on the decal setting solution.

The model with the decals applied. Now is the time to do any straightening to make your decaling job look professional. Remember you can blot water from your fingers to aid in moving the decals straight.

    Picture
Remember you can use masking tape for modelers which comes in various widths from 1/8 inch and up to aid in getting decals straight as well. I usually keep applying the seting solution every 20 minutes to make sure all the cracks between the boxcars wooden sides are snuggled in with the decal.

    Adding your end numbers.

    Picture
In this picture we see two early  type Arcade & Attica steel boxcars getting end number applied. I put the cars in coffee cups to hold them while I apply the end numerals.
